Convention center, hotel to rise near Citi
By Adam Rubin
Fleet Financial Group plans to break ground in June on a convention center and 25-story hotel at 112-21 Northern Blvd., just across the Grand Central Parkway from Citi Field, the Daily News reports.
The construction project will rise on the former site of a Ford dealership.
"For the longest time, Queens has wanted to have some sort of facility like a Javits Center,” Fleet president Richard Xia told the newspaper. “It’s going to be great for the area.”
Over the next decade and beyond, the area around Citi Field should be vastly transformed by other projects as well. That includes a mall slated for Willets Point.
