NEW YORK -- With the Mets able to add a 26th player for Sunday's doubleheader, the club has selected right-handed reliever Vic Black for a promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Black, who turned 26 on Friday, had been penciled in as Bobby Parnell's primary setup man entering spring training. However, Black surrendered 13 hits, 10 walks and hit a batter in 9 1/3 Grapefruit League innings and ended up not even making the big-league club.

Black had produced a 3-0 record, 3.46 ERA and 1.154 WHIP in 15 late-season relief appearances with the Mets in 2013 after being acquired on Aug. 29 with minor-league second baseman Dilson Herrera for Marlon Byrd and John Buck.

This season, he is 0-1 with a 1.45 ERA and has converted seven saves in eight chances with Vegas. He also has surrendered 12 hits, 17 walks (one intentional) and hit a batter in 18 2/3 innings.

The open question is whether Black remains beyond Sunday at the expense of another reliever or returns to Vegas.
