TC on Dillon: 'We're just being cautious'

By Adam Rubin

NEW YORK -- Terry Collins on Monday described the Mets as "cautious" when asked to describe the level of concern about Dillon Gee. The right-hander was too uncomfortable Sunday to attempt to throw off the mound for the first time since landing on the disabled list with a right lat-muscle strain.

"It's a big muscle, a major muscle and you've got to be careful of it," Collins said.

Collins said he did not want to feed into a sense of alarm.

"That's why we didn't use the word 'setback.' It means the house of cards is falling in here," Collins said. "We're just being cautious with him. He is not feeling as good as we had hoped right now, so we're going to take our time and let the healing process work. ... You feel good for a couple of days and you go out and you do your exercises and all of a sudden you're a little stiff, it doesn't mean there's more damage or anything else. It just means, hey look, it's going to take longer than we thought. That's the concern."

Gee will be reexamined by team doctors, then "most likely" be dispatched to the team's Florida complex.
