Mets drop den Dekker to open roster spot
By Adam Rubin
PHILADELPHIA -- The Mets must be satisfied Juan Lagares' rib-cage injury is not serious. In order to add extra arm Dana Eveland from Triple-A Las Vegas, the Mets have demoted Matt den Dekker and will play down a position player.
The Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have played consecutive 14-inning games -- the first teams to do so on back-to-back days since the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians June 20-21, 2003, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Hence the need for the extra arm.
Den Dekker had only limited playing time since a May 26 promotion coinciding with Eric Young Jr. landing on the disabled list. Den Dekker appeared in three games off the bench, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
