TC: No plans to adjust OF/IF balance
By Adam Rubin
NEW YORK -- The Mets are playing with an extra outfielder and only Eric Campbell, in reality, as a backup infielder. But there are no plans to readjust the balance out of the All-Star break, according to Terry Collins.
Until the Mets need to give Ruben Tejada a day off, which should not be required for a while, the Mets will not call up a bona fide backup shortstop.
That's true even with Wilmer Flores on fire in Las Vegas. Flores enters Sunday on a 17-game hitting streak. He's hitting .382 (26-for-68) with seven homers and 28 RBIs during that stretch in the Pacific Coast League.
Tejada has started 19 straight games at shortstop.
Asked about rebalancing the infield and outfield after the All-Star break, Collins did not even mention Flores.
"I don't know if we have any other options except continuing with what we've got," Collins said about the current balance. "I have not heard about any changes."
