Report: Colon placed on waivers

By Adam Rubin

NEW YORK -- Bartolo Colon has been placed on revocable waivers by the Mets, Fox's Ken Rosenthal tweeted.

If Colon is claimed, the Mets can pull him back and be unable to trade him, work out a trade with the claiming team, or dump the $11 million contract for 2015 on the claiming club.

There may be a fair chance Colon clears waivers because of that contract dump potential. If Colon clears, the Mets are free to deal him to any club for the remainder of the month.

Rival exec on whether anyone will claim Bartolo Colon on waivers: "It would be like a lightning bolt from the heavens for the Mets."
