Cyclones drop playoff opener
By Adam Rubin
Brooklyn, one of two Mets minor league affiliates still playing, lost its New York-Penn League first-round playoff opener, 7-6, at Jamestown on Tuesday night.
The best-of-three series continues Wednesday at Coney Island with the Cyclones facing elimination.
The Cyclones stormed back from a 6-1 deficit, and evened the score in the eighth on a two-run single by Joe Bonfe. However, Wes Wrenn surrendered the decisive run in the bottom half while working a second inning of relief.
Cyclones starter Yohan Almonte, who led the organization during the regular season with a 1.91 ERA, was charged with six runs (five earned) and five hits while walking three and striking out three in four innings.
Savannah opens the South Atlantic League playoffs Wednesday.
