The Mets have expressed interest in signing left-hander Victor Garate and right-hander Armando Galarraga, Venezuelan journalist Rafael Tejera reports. Tejera adds that both pitchers have offers from Asian ballclubs.
Mets contracts would be minor-league deals undoubtedly.
Garate, 29, made four relief appearances with the Washington Nationals in 2009. He worked last season as a starting pitcher in Mexico, posting a 3.78 ERA in 100 innings with Saltillo.
Galarraga, 31, last appeared in the majors when he produced a 6.75 ERA in five starts for the Houston Astros in 2012. He pitched at Triple-A Colorado Springs and Louisville last season, posting a combined 3.64 ERA in 23 starts in the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies organizations.
