The Mets have signed utility player Matt Tuiasosopo to a minor league contract, Baseball America reports.

Tuiasosopo, 25, appeared in 71 games with the Seattle Mariners from 2008-10, hitting .175 with five homers in 193 ABs. He has played plenty of positions at the major league level -- first base, second base, third base, shortstop and left field. He hit .226 at Triple-A Tacoma last season.

According to the Seattle Times, he is the younger brother of former University of Washington football players Marques and Zach Tuiasosopo. Marques went on to attempt 90 passes for the Oakland Raiders from 2001-08 and also belonged to the Jets. Their father, Manu, played for the Seattle Seahawks.

Matt's first major league home run, by the way, created quite a stir in the booth because it was predicted by ex-Yankee Mike Blowers on the broadcast. Watch here.
