New Jersey Nets backup point guard Jordan Farmar will likely miss the next 7-10 days with a sprained ankle. Farmar suffered the injury in the Nets' loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday.

While Ben Uzoh will likely spell Deron Williams in Farmar's absence, the Nets have signed Sundiata Gaines to a 10-day contract as an insurance policy.

The 24-year-old has appeared in 14 games this season: six with the Toronto Raptors and eight with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He's averaging 4.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.2 assists per game in those outings.

Gaines appeared in 32 games with the Jazz last season. His one highlight came when he drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give Utah a dramatic 97-96 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 14, 2010.
