WHAT IT MEANS: The New Jersey Nets are one year away from playing in their new Brooklyn home. They wrapped up their first of two temporary seasons in Newark with a 105-103 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday night. D.J. Augustine’s step back fadeaway jumper from about 10 feet away with 1.1 seconds left proved to be the difference. The Nets (24-57) have now lost four in a row and 14 of 16. They closed out their first season at Prudential Center with a record of 19-22. The Bobcats (33-48) snapped a six-game losing streak.

TURNING POINT: Brook Lopez had nine straight points in the fourth quarter, rallying the Nets back from an eight-point deficit. They trailed by three with 13 seconds left, but Sasha Vujacic drilled a 3-pointer with 10.9 seconds remaining to tie the game at 103-103. Unfortunately, Augustine spoiled the Fan Appreciation Night when he broke Lopez’s ankles before draining the dagger over him.

MAKING AN IMPACT: Lopez finished with a game-high 31 points -- 11 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Jordan Farmar added 20 points and nine assists. Vujacic had 19 points on 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Brandon Wright was a perfect 5-for-5 off the bench and finished with 10 points.

Augustine had 19 points and a game-high 11 assists. Boris Diaw scored 20 points and made all seven of his shots in the second half. Dante Cunningham had a team-high 21 points.

NUMBERS CRUNCH: The Nets, who led by as many as eight, were outscored 30-20 in the third quarter, and allowed the Bobcats to shoot 57 percent from the field.

IN THE CROWD: Vujacic’s fiance, Maria Sharapova, along with New York Giants’ Justin Tuck and David Diehl.

GARDEN STATE GIMPS: Deron Williams (wrist surgery), Kris Humphries (ankle, heel), Anthony Morrow (knee) and Damion James (foot) -- 80 percent of the Nets normal starting five -- missed the game with injuries. Reserves Mario West (shoulder) and Sundiata Gaines (hip) were also out, leaving the Nets with nine healthy bodies going in.

UP NEXT: The Nets close out the 2010-11 campaign in Chicago when they take on the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
