Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, one of the premier early-season college basketball showcase events, is relocating on a multi-year basis to the Barclays Center of Brooklyn beginning in November 2012. The two-day tournament, to be broadcast exclusively on Turner Sports’ truTV, will be part of the major college basketball platform at the Barclays Center.

Many of college basketball’s most storied programs have participated in the 16 years of Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, including previous champions Pittsburgh (2010), Syracuse (2009), Duke (2008), Maryland (2007), Memphis (2006), and Florida (2005). The participating teams for the 2012 Classic will be announced later this year.

The Classic benefits Coaches vs. Cancer, a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), which has raised nearly $50 million since its inception to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission.

“We are thrilled that such a prestigious college basketball event as the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic will be taking the court at the Barclays Center of Brooklyn,” Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said. “College basketball has a rich history in Brooklyn and many of the greatest players of all-time have called the borough home. We plan to make the Barclays Center an integral venue for major college basketball on the East Coast and to bring the best of sports and entertainment back to Brooklyn. This is the first of many significant announcements about college basketball at the Barclays Center. Most importantly, we are pleased to be supporting such a significant initiative by the NABC and the American Cancer Society and laud them for their great work.”

“The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) is looking forward to 2012 when the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic moves to the new Barclays Center of Brooklyn,” said NABC President Ernie Kent. “We are confident that this great event will continue to flourish and grow in what will be one of the nation’s most outstanding new venues.”
