NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Nets rookie shooting guard MarShon Brooks, who has missed the last three games with an injured left Achilles tendon, will play on Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors, Nets coach Avery Johnson said.

Brooks won’t start, though, and will not play as many as 36 minutes like he did on Jan .22 against Charlotte in his last game before the injury. Johnson would rather get him more like 28 minutes.

“Yes, we are [going to monitor his minutes from now on], because again, we want this kid in a healthy place,” Johnson said. “He’s played in more games in a week than he did in a week in college, so we have to be mindful of that.”

The 23-year-old Brooks ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game in 16 contests, including nine starts. He received an injection on Saturday, according to Johnson, while also undergoing an ultrasound test. Brooks was a game-time decision, but made it through shootaround, and was cleared to play.

Anthony Morrow will make the start at shooting guard.

Center Mehmet Okur underwent an MRI, which turned out to be negative, but the 32-year-oldveteran will see a back specialist in New York City on Monday, and will miss “a couple games,” according to Johnson. Okur, who has been dealing with recurring back spasms, missed Friday night’s game in Cleveland. He also missed two games earlier this month. Johnson still characterized Okur as day to day.

Shelden Williams will start at center.

Okur is averaging 7.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Nets (7-13), who will look to increase their season-high two-game winning streak to three against the Raptors.

The team also announced that rookie power forward Jordan Williams was recalled from its NBDL affiliate in Springfield, and will be available Saturday night.

In five games, the 21-year-old Williams averaged 12.6 points and nine rebounds.
