Some thoughts after the Nets’ fifth straight loss, a 93-84 defeat in Atlanta on Friday night.

• The Hawks swept the four-game season series.

• The Nets (15-34, 10-16 road) played phenomenal basketball at the end of the third quarter, using great defensive stands and turnovers to rip off an 11-0 run and take a 69-62 lead into the final period.

• But the game turned when Deron Williams had to get a rest. The Nets’ offense went in the tank, and the Hawks started the fourth on an 8-0 run to take a 70-69 lead.

• The Hawks went on to outscore the Nets 30-15 in the final quarter. New Jersey went 5-for-18 from the field in the last 12 minutes.

• Gerald Green played well, scoring 10 points, grabbing five rebounds and having one heck of a block on Jeff Teague during the fourth. But in the final minute, he failed to come up with a rebound that would’ve given the Nets a chance to get within one.

• D-Will had 20 points, eight assists and four rebounds on 9-for-20 shooting in 39 minutes.

• MarShon Brooks was mostly invisible in 18 minutes, going 2-for-4.

• Gerald Wallace struggled to shoot for the second straight game, going 3-for-14 -- including 2-for-7 from 3-point range. He did have nine rebounds and six assists, though.

• Jordan Williams was great off the bench. In 15 minutes, the rookie had eight points and three rebounds. Kris Humphries had a quiet but solid 17 points and eight rebounds.

• The Nets won the rebounding battle 45-33, but were outscored 50-28 in the paint. They also made just six of their 25 3s.

• When he wasn’t shooting stupid 3s or jacking up dumb jumpers, Josh Smith was a one-man wrecking crew. He finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds.

• The Nets take on Charlotte on Saturday night at home, where they’re just 5-18.
