Nets fall to D-12 led Magic in Orlando

By Mike Mazzeo

Some notes from the Nets’ 86-70 loss to the Magic in Orlando on Friday night.

Dwight Howard, now a member of the Magic through 2012-13, got a nice hand from the crowd when he was introduced. Howard got what looked like the easiest 18 points and six rebounds he’d ever had in his career on 8-for-10 shooting in 32 minutes.

• The Nets have now scored a season-low 70 points three times this season. How? They shot 4-for-26 in the fourth quarter. Not kidding.

• Their starters combined to shoot 9-for-40 overall, and score seven points in the first half. Think it will be nice to get Deron Williams back after a four-game absence due to injury on Saturday night?

• Before they acquired Gerald Wallace, didn’t the Nets already have a capable small forward on their roster? Gerald Green carried the load for them in the first half, contributing 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting. He went scoreless in the last 24 minutes, though, and had five turnovers overall.

DeShawn Stevenson made the shot of the year. At the end of the third quarter, he threw an alley-oop pass from half court -- that went in the basket. The odds of that shot going in were significantly less than the odds of Norfolk State beating Missouri. Both happened anyway.

• The Nets had 13 steals and the Magic had 18 turnovers. Didn’t matter. The Magic outscored the Nets in the paint, 44-22.

• The Nets have started 19 different lineups this season, more than any other team in the NBA.

• They’ll make it 20 on Saturday night, when Wallace and D-Will are inserted into the starting five.
