NEW YORK -- Cam Newton sauntered into the interview room after Carolina made him the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and said, "With this organization, I'm comfortable."

This past season Newton went from being a lock for the Heisman Trophy, to mired in a pay-for-play scandal -- but that ultimately didn't keep him from getting the award. Despite the questions about his character, Newton said he feels Carolina has his back.

"It's a goal for me on a consistent basis to challenge myself to get better on a daily basis," Newton said.

As for the critics?

"I'm not trying to prove nothing to no one that I'm not trying to prove to myself," Newton said.
