In case you didn’t know ...
New York Rangers
• 2013-14 proved to be McDonagh’s breakout offensive season: he tallied career-highs in goals (14), assists (29) and points (43) during the regular season. He’s currently tied for the team lead in playoff points (13 -- including 10 assists). He has averaged a team-high 25:11 of ice-time in the postseason.
• The McDonagh-Gomez trade has been GM Glen Sather’s best trade since joining the Rangers in 2000. Somehow he was able to get rid of the albatross contract he gave Gomez and turn that mess into McDonagh, who has quickly turned himself into one of the best defensemen this franchise has ever seen.
• McDonagh, a do-it-all blueliner who can block shots, kill penalties and stifle the league’s best lines, played for the U.S. Olympic hockey team in 2014 and signed a six-year, $28.2 million contract extension on July 8, 2013.
