The Rangers placed veteran forward Taylor Pyatt on waivers Wednesday afternoon.
No huge shocker there as the struggling Pyatt has been a consistent scratch lately, but there is a little more to the move.
Placing Pyatt on waivers clears room on the team's 23-man roster, an indication that the Rangers will likely activate captain Ryan Callahan from injured reserve in advance of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Callahan has been sidelined since suffering a knee sprain in the team's 4-1 loss to Nashville on Dec. 10.
