Lundqvist blanks Swedes; Jagr scores
By Katie Strang
One has to imagine Henrik Lundqvist is feeling even more pressure now with Swedish captain Henrik Zetterberg out for the remainder of the Olympics with a herniated disk.
But following the gut-punch of an announcement -- Zetterberg will join fellow injured Swedes Henrik Sedin and Johan Franzen -- Lundqvist made 26 saves to blank an inspired Swiss squad that gave the Swedes a great game on Friday.
With the shutout, Lundqvist recorded his second consecutive win of the tournament. After besting his Swiss counterpart Reto Berra, who was in net Friday to give Jonas Hiller some rest, Lundqvist is expected to get his third straight start on Saturday when his team completes a quick turnaround with a game against Latvia.
In other local NY hockey-player news, Jaromir Jagr notched his second goal of these 2014 Olympic Games, leading the way for the Czechs' 4-2 win over Latvia. Jagr is just one day shy of 42 years old. His Devils teammate and countryman Marek Zidlicky finished with a goal and an assist in the game as well.
