Staal to face brothers Saturday
By Katie Strang
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The last time the Brothers Staal were in town with the Hurricanes, Marc Staal had to watch from the press box as older brother Eric, and younger brothers Jordan and Jared all played together in the Hurricanes 2-1 shootout loss to his Rangers squad.
The Staal brothers will face off Saturday.
Marc, of course, was out with an eye injury that sidelined him for more than half of last season.
"It was cool to watch. I was glad I was in the building for that, watching Jared's first game. That was a pretty neat experience," Staal said Friday after practice. "Obviously I would've rather been out there on the ice against them."
Now healthy, the Rangers defenseman is looking forward to facing Eric and Jordan together for the first time since the two became teammates on the Hurricanes (Jared is currently with the 'Canes' farm team in Charlotte).
"It's going to make for a little different dynamic with both of them out there," Staal said. "I'm sure I'll see a lot of either of them, so it should be fun."
Staal said his parents, Linda and Henry Staal, are making the trek down from Thunder Bay, Ontario to take in Saturday's game at Madison Square Garden. Luckily for Marc (and his wallet), his other brothers are playing Friday against the Lightning so won't be in town for the night-before pre-game meal.
