Red Bulls loan Tyler Lassiter to NASL's Carolina Railhawks
By Matthew Artus
The New York Red Bulls announced this afternoon that they have loaned defender Tyler Lassiter to the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League for the remainder of the 2011 season.
Lassiter, who was selected 30th overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the Red Bulls, will join a Railhawks side that sits atop the NASL standings with 51 points from a 16-4-3 record. The move also brings the 22-year-old defender within a 15-minute drive of his alma mater, North Carolina State University.
The former Wolfpack center back has appeared in two U.S. Open Cup matches for the Red Bulls this season, including his debut during the club's 2-1 win over FC New York on June 28. He has not appeared in an MLS regular season match this season and sits deep down on the defensive depth chart behind the likes of Rafael Marquez, Tim Ream, and Carlos Mendes among others and with a head coach in Hans Backe that shies away from in-game substitutions unless absolutely necessary.
Carolina hosts FC Tampa Bay at WakeMed Soccer Park this Saturday, which would presumably be Lassiter's debut.
