85 Days: Bundle up, 'knuckleheads'!

The Super Bowl host committee knows the game's going to be cold -- and wants to make sure you know how to dress for it.
Each day from now until Feb. 2, ESPNNewYork.com will take you inside the challenge of staging the most unpredictable NFL title game ever. There are 85 days to the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XLVIII could be cold as heck, and the Super Bowl host committee is choosing to embrace that fact.

“Obviously, there are knuckleheads out there,” committee CEO Al Kelly said at a recent breakfast. “We’re going to have to remind people how to dress, too.”

One of those ways is a cheeky social media strategy that includes pictures of ... gloves! Hats! Items that you can wear to protect your own extremities from the cold!

If you can’t beat the cold, embrace it.

Check out @NYNJSuperBowl Twitter page for yourself, but one image shows former Giants DE Michael Strahan at a Super Bowl photo shoot. He’s wearing a puffy winter jacket, scarf and one of those lumberjack hats with the fuzzy earflaps:

Clearly, sitting in the upper deck of a stadium on a February day when a wind chill across the Meadowlands makes it feel like 15 degrees is going to be deeply uncomfortable. But of all the things the host committee has control of, the weather isn’t one of them.

Hot chocolate and pocket hand warmers can only go so far, but reminding fans to be prepared for cold weather is a fun way to embrace what makes this game unique. If you can’t eliminate your weakness, embrrrrrrrace it.
