84 Days: Tourists, Squared
By Jane McManus
Planning to avoid Times Square around Super Bowl week? Don't go above 34th, either.
Each day from now until Feb. 2, ESPNNewYork.com will take you inside the challenge of staging the most unpredictable NFL title game ever.
There are 84 days to the Super Bowl.
On Thursday, we noted that Times Square would be turned into
Super Bowl Boulevard
from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1.
At each Super Bowl, the NFL provides a fan experience in the days before the game; this time that will be on Broadway between 34th and 44th streets. Some of the attractions:
• Gigantic Roman numerals as a photo op for those in town for the game
• The Vince Lombardi Trophy
• Toboggan run between 40th and 41st streets
• Concert stage
• Autograph station
Times Square is already clogged enough, but this will be just south of all the activity. You have to figure this is where the tourists will want to go anyway.
This week in Super news:
This New Jersey Star-Ledger story
details all the packages available for the real high rollers -- the ones who can plunk down $19K in exchange for hotel, a ticket to the game, parties and cars.
The Associated Press' Jim Litke gives
a good overview
of the expense and pageantry associated with the NFL’s title game.
And Forbes has
about the Super Bowl advertising plans for Jaguar, an automaker with longstanding ties to Great Britain.
