The Super Bowl halftime performance just got a little bit spicier.
Artist Bruno Mars invited the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers to join him for the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Feb. 2, as announced Saturday afternoon on FOX.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 60 million albums and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2012. They have won six Grammy Awards. Their last album was in 2011.

Bruno Mars is Billboard's 2013 Artist of the Year and is an 18-time Grammy Award nominee and winner. He follows Beyonce, and will join a respected list of halftime performers including Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Brand, U2 and The Who as Super Bowl halftime performers.

The Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show was watched by more than 110.5 million viewers in the United States last year, and is the most-watched musical event of the year, according to a press release. It is broadcasted worldwide.
