In case it hasn't sunk in yet that the baseball season is over at Yankee Stadium, one peek at the infield today will drive the point home. Right now-- 11:48 in the morning of Monday, Oct. 25, two days before the start of the World Series -- the grounds crew is on the field with tractors and a bulldozer shearing away the grass around the skin of the infield in preparation for converting the place into a football field. Notre Dame and Army will play here Nov. 20, the first college football game at Yankee Stadium since 1987.
