By sheer coincidence, it turns out both Alex Rodriguez and myself were in Paris within days of one another around the holidays. When I mentioned this morning to A-Rod how close we had come to running into one another on the Champs Elysees, his eyes grew as big as a Javier Vazquez fastball. "You probably would have thought I followed you there,'' I said.

"Damned right,'' he replied.

"So what would you have done,'' I asked him. "I'll show you,'' he said. Then he produced a photo on his cellphone of himself in mid-sprint.

"That's what I would have done,'' he said.

Geez, I thought we might have double-dated.
