Freddy may have pitched his last game

Of the spring, that is. Because of a quirk in the schedule, Freddy Garcia's last chance to show he has what it takes to win the No. 5 starter's job may come in a simulated game on march 24, the Yankees' last off-day of the spring. Joe Girardi played it coy when asked when Garcia would go again, since his next scheduled turn comes up on that open date.

""Larry (Rothschild) mentioned that he might want to do something that day,'' Girardi said, without revealing exactly what he meant. But on the board behind his desk on which he writes the initials of the starting pitcher for each game, there are no more boxes with the initials "FG'' written in blue marker. So it's safe to assume that Garcia, who got lit up by the Blue Jays Saturday for his second straight rough outing of the spring, will have to make his final case against teammates in an empty stadium on Thursday.
