Reggie in camp, recovering from back surgery

Reggie Jackson arrived in Tampa Saturday night and made his first appearance in camp at today's Yankees-Phillies game in Clearwater, an uncharacteristically late arrival for Mr. October, who usually shows up here in February. I ran into Reggie in a local restaurant Saturday night and he told me why: He had back surgery to repair disk and verterbrae damage. The operation turned out to be more serious than doctors first thought and Jackson, who turns 65 in May, took longer than expected to recover. "It was a real test of my faith for while there,'' said Jackson, who was in a wheelchair for the first couple of weeks but says he is now able to resume some physical activity. He will be in camp with the Yankees through the end of the week.
