Yankees left-handed reliever Damaso Marte told ESPN NewYork.com on Friday that doctors have said he can begin to play catch after the All-Star break.

"I have been working hard to come back," said Marte, who underwent shoulder surgery last October. "It's too early to do anything right now since it's only been five months."

On Thursday, general manager Brian Cashman essentially ruled out Marte for the season. Cashman said if everything goes "perfectly" that Marte could rejoin the team in September. However, as of now, that seems unlikely.
