Whatever happened to Carlos Silva, anyway?

If you think Kevin Millwood's chances of making the Yankees are remote (see below), Carlos Silva's appear even slimmer, if such a word should be used to describe anything about a pitcher who weighs 280 pounds. According to Brian Cashman, Silva, who was signed by the Yankees to a minor-league deal after he was released, acrimoniously, by the Chicago Cubs at the end of spring training, hasn't been assigned to a minor-league club. In fact, he hasn't even thrown to a hitter yet.

"I don't think he's thrown batting practice or even done any bullpens,'' Cashman said. "Just conditioning drills in Tampa. I think he's close to going to extended spring training next, and when we feel comfortable we'll assign him to a club.''
