On Sunday afternoon, Ivan Nova will attempt to improve on the longest outing of his career, when he pitched into the seventh inning against the Chicago White Sox, a game the Yankees eventually lost. He'll face Jesse Litsch, whom the Yankees have hit hard in the past.

1) Double-A Trenton won behind the pitching of Manny Banuelos. Banuelos was on a strict pitch count and sat at 93 mph. Mike Ashmore has video of his postgame interview.

Every other affiliate lost.

Triple-A Scranton faced Julio Teheran, one of the game's top prospects. Jesus Montero had two hits, and caught for the first time since his injury last week.

High-A Tampa lost to Clearwater; Low-A Charleston lost to Delmarva. In Charleston, Gary Sanchez went hitless in four at bats and struck out twice. Slade Heathcott had the night off.

2) Johnette Howard writes about the slumping Jorge Posada.

Posada is having one of the strangest seasons in recent memory; he starts May hitting
under .130 and with a BABIP of .070 going into Saturday's game, though the BABIP is partially deflated because six of Posada's nine hits have been home runs. That said, Posada's struggles at the plate are hard to watch for a catcher many consider a borderline Hall of Fame candidate, and one of the three remaining members of the dynasty teams of the late 1990s.

3) Kevin Kernan argues that Yankees' GM Brian Cashman needs to act soon to bolster a team whose flaws are becoming evident.

That said, many of Cashman's offseason moves -- such as signing Russell Martin and Bartolo Colon -- have so far looked like gold, and sometimes (the 2009 trade deadline comes to mind) the smaller moves, like Jerry Hairston and Eric Hinske, make a more important difference.
