How about this for an interesting stat?

Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista has more home runs (19) than the other eight batters in his team’s Monday lineup -- combined (18).

Bautista hit his major-league leading 19th homer -- a solo shot -- off New York Yankees right-hander Bartolo Colon with two outs in the bottom of the first inning on Monday night. With the count 0-1, Bautista tattooed a Colon fastball into the Yankees’ bullpen, putting the Jays on top, 1-0. They went on to beat the Yankees, 7-3, in front of 41,946 at Yankee Stadium.

“It seems like he’s been doing that for a year-and-a-half now,” shortstop Derek Jeter said of Bautista, who also walked twice and scored two runs. “It seems like every time he’s up at the plate he’s in a 3-0 count. It’s impressive, but like you said, we don’t want to see it.”

Bautista has been a Yankee killer this season. He’s now homered three times in six games against the Bronx Bombers. He has 10 dingers in May -- two shy of his club record (12) for the month, which he set a season ago.

“He’s definitely hitting the ball well,” said Colon, who took the loss after surrendering six earned runs in six innings. “But I’m not just worrying about one guy. I’m worrying about the other eight guys too.”

Not that they matter much, since Bautista is a one-man wrecking crew in the middle of that lineup. He’s now reached base in 37 of 39 games this season, and is triple-slashing an ungodly .353/.503/.827.

“He’s definitely the one guy in their lineup you don’t want to let beat you,” catcher Russell Martin said.

Yet Bautista did just that, and the Jays emerged victorious.
