Derek Jeter lined Gio Gonzaelz's third pitch of the game over the head of left-fielder Josh Willingham for a leadoff double, leaving him just 16 hits shy of 3,000 for his career. Two batters later, Alex Rodriguez doubled to right to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead.
