Curtis Granderson hit his 20th homer of the season on Saturday, taking over the team lead and tying Jose Bautista for first place in the majors.

Mark Teixeira pulled to within one of Granderson and Bautista two innings later when he hit a solo homer, his 19th of the season.

If you’re thinking – like Michael Kay did on the YES broadcast – that Teixeira against Granderson is shaping up to be the 2011 version of Mantle versus Maris, think again. Granderson believes, at season’s end, he will be no match for Teixeira at the end of the season.

“He’s going to have it,” said Granderson, who is four homers shy of his 2010 total.

He felt the same away about Bautista, adding: “He’ll take off, too.”

Teixeira may have a different take.

He was effusive in his praise for Granderson, who is in the midst of his second three-homer-in-three-game streak of the season.

“His swing is so consistent,” Teixeira said. “He’s really in a good place.”

What about the possibility of a season-long home run competition between the first baseman and the center fielder?

“I like that kind friendly competition,” Teixeira said.
