In what was likely his last at-bat of the night, Derek Jeter just justified Joe Girardi's decision to play him tonight by lining a fastball from Justin Masterson over RF Austin Kearns' head for a double with one out in the eighth inning. It was not only Jeter's second double in two nights, it ran his career hit total to 2,997, leaving him in good position to reach the 3,000 hit milestone in the four-game series with the Rays that starts Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. Jeter got to third on Curtis Granderson;s groundout, but no further as Mark Teixeira grounded out to end the inning. Yankees trailing, 3-0, as we go to the bototm of th eighth
