The Yankees avoided what could have been a near disaster in the bottom of the third.
Eduardo Nunez raced down the first base line trying to beat out a bunt single and slid safely into the bag. But his right leg -- the one he tucked under his body during the slide -- hit the bag hard and he came up limping.
He was tended to by the Yankee trainers and remained at first. Nunez ended the inning by getting thrown out at the plate on Mark Teixeira's sacrifice fly.
Any Nunez injury would be taxing on the Yanks, who are for the moment without Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez is getting a second opinion on a slight meniscus tear in his right knee. He may opt to undergo surgery to repair the injury.
