Reliever Rafael Soriano threw a scoreless inning in relief for AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and all indications are he could rejoin the team as early as Wednesday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Soriano will not available for the Yankees Tuesday and the team will have to make a decision Wednesday.

Monday's outing was the first of back-to-back outings for the righty and he struck out one hitter and threw 11 of his 19 pitches for strikes. In his four minor league rehab performances, Soriano pitched 4.1 innings and gave up five hits and four earned runs. He also struck out three batters and gave up two home runs.

According to The Times Leader, Soriano's fastball was primarily in the low 9os and topped out at 93 on Monday. Soriano told the paper that he needed to throw on back-to-back days before returning.

"I feel like I am ready to go back. Not tomorrow. Maybe Wednesday or Friday,” Soriano told The Times Leader. “I told them, let me go one time back-to-back and I will let you know from there.”

Soriano, signed in the offseason to be the Yankees set-up man, has been on the disabled list since May 17, retroactive to May 14, with right elbow inflammation. He is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA this season.

He told The Times Leader following Monday's performance that he's not concerned with his role in the bullpen when he returns. David Robertson has taken over in the eighth inning in Soriano's absence and has been phenomenal for the Yankees this season.

"I’ll go there and help the ball club and see what happens after that," Soriano told The Times Leader.
