In the fifth, the Yankees quickly put John Lackey on the ropes. Francisco Cervelli and Derek Jeter sandwiched singles around Brett Gardner being hit by a pitch. Jeter's hard shot to center produced a run.

With men on first and second and no out, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira struck out before Robinson Cano grounded out to first.

The Yankees got one back, but it could have been more. They are down 7-3 halfway through.
