Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Phil Hughes will not start Tuesday. But after that, Girardi offered few answers as to his potential rotation against the Angels and beyond.

Girardi said it is possible that A.J. Burnett could be moved up to Tuesday and Ivan Nova could start Wednesday. As he was leaving the clubhouse, Burnett said that, as far he knew, he was still going Wednesday. Nova said he had no information on when he might start.

Hughes was ruled out of his Tuesday start after he came in during the 10th inning in relief on Sunday night. Hughes threw just 13 pitches, not many of which were good ones. David Ortiz nailed a double and Josh Reddick hit an RBI single to win the game.

Not only did Hughes lose the game, there is no telling when he can build on his last start, six scoreless innings against the White Sox.

"It is always disappointing when you are not able to start," Hughes said. "I thought I made some good progress in my last start, so if I have to wait around that won't be something that is fun to deal with. But, again, I don't really make these calls or something like that."

Hughes thought he could pitch Tuesday because of his low pitch count, but Girardi ruled him out.
