Pre-Game Notes: Freddy Garcia showed off his newly-naked right index finger, bandage-free for the first time all week since cutting it in a kitchen accident last week. But Joe Girardi said he still hasn't been able to throw his splitter and his status for this weekend's series in Minnesota -- he was scheduled to start either Saturday or Sunday -- remains in doubt. Girardi even said the DL was a possibility if Garcia can't go, considering it will be two weeks since he last pitched . . . Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira are always happy to see Royals starter Bruce Chen. In his career, Jeter has hit .400 (14-for-35) against Chen with three HRs, Teixeira a whopping .563, with nine hits in 16 at-bats, and six of those nine hits have been homers. Chen is 1-5 lifetime against the Yankees with a 6.71 ERA . . . Bartolo Colon is 15-8 lifetime vs. KC with a 4.80 ERA. None of the Royals in tonight's starting lineup has a decent sample size against him. Billy Butler is 2-for-8, Alex Gordon 1-for-3 and Melky Cabrera 1-for-2.
