Hughes' velocity down?

Phil Hughes made it through a rain-soaked six innings at Yankee Stadium late Tuesday night, allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

Who knows how the four-hour rain delay affected the right-hander? (We'll find out what he thinks when we talk to him after the game). But it seemed like Hughes' velocity was down. His fastball was in the 89 mph-91 mph range, a few miles below where the Yankees would like him.

The home run he allowed to Matt Wieters in the sixth was a 90 mph fastball.

Hughes' velocity was a serious issue earlier this year. After an awful start in which he couldn't sustain any velocity, he was placed on the DL with right shoulder inflammation.
