Swisher reacts to umpire dispute, Cervelli update

9/26/2011

We went into the Joe Girardi ejection and the Nick Swisher dispute here. There were two calls that first base ump Tim McClleland missed that involved Swisher.

In the third, Swisher was really safe on a double play and in the 13th, with Swisher playing first, Dustin Pedroia was really out. Swisher argued both times, but didn't do anything out of the ordinary. McClelland got heated.

"That is the first time I ever had an umpire get up in my face," Swisher said.

Girardi added, “I didn’t like the way he went at Swish. Swish said something and I don’t think Swish was showing him up. That is always the big thing, the relationship with the umpires and the players. You can have your say, but don’t show us up. I thought he went at Swish and I didn’t think that was right.”

Girardi has been ejected three times, all against the Red Sox.

CERVELLI UPDATE: Francisco Cervelli (concussion) might catch a bullpen. It still seems highly unlikely he will be ready for the ALDS.
