There won't be any change for David Robertson as he enters the postseason. What you saw from him during the regular season as he emerged as one of the top set-up relievers in baseball will be what you see in October.
"Every game that I come into, I'm coming in and I'm going to focus and be intense and try to make my pitches and attack and get guys out," Robertson said. "I can't change what I've done through this whole season. The postseason, I'm going to try to do the exact same thing and just be consistent."
After entering the postseason as a middle-to-late innings reliever the past few seasons, he will be the Yankees eighth-inning man this year. He enters the postseason off the best season of his career, as he finished the year with a spectacular 1.08 ERA and 100 strikeouts.
"I'm always excited for the postseason, there's always the chance that you could get to the World Series, that's the biggest thing, there's always that chance," Robertson said. "It's exciting, the fans are in the game and it's the best baseball to play."
Last year, Robertson struggled in the postseason, pitching to a 20.25 ERA in the ALCS against the Rangers. In an 8-0 loss against Texas in Game 3, he gave up three five earned runs over 1/3 innings and later gave up a run in the decisive Game 6.
Like most relievers, he exhibited short-term memory when asked about that series perhaps providing motivation for him going forward.
"I've forgotten about Texas," Robertson said.
