If the Yankees are in the ALCS, so is Burnett

A.J. Burnett's performance in Game 4 of the ALDS was apparently good enough to earn him a spot in the next round if the Yankees get that far. In a must-win game, Burnett worked 5-2/3 innings of four-hit, one-run ball, but needed two huge assists from Curtis Granderson in centerfield, and had Cory Wade warming up in the bullpen when the game was only five batters old.

Still, Girardi said Burnett was a likely addition to the starting rotation if the Yankees advance to the the ALCS against the Texas Rangers. "Yeah, I imagine I would start him,'' Girardi said. "I haven't thought that far along, but yeah.''

Girardi said he thought Burnett's performance did a lot to help his confidence

"I think it meant a lot to him,'' Girardi said. "I know it sure meant a lot to us, what he did. But I mean he’s got to feel really good about what he was able to go out and do. He shut them down as well as any of our starters have in this series. And there was no wiggle room, really. We couldn’t lose the game, so, he’s got to feel really good and you hope it helps going forward.''
