Yankees GM Brian Cashman was able to squeeze in two meetings with player agents this afternoon in between the rather full agenda the general managers are being run through at this year's GM meetings. One was with Dan Lozano, who represents Albert Pujols and Carlos Beltran, the other with Adam Katz, who has Yoennis Cespedes, the Cuban defector outfielder whose highly-entertaining promotional video is back up on the web. You can view it here.
Katz also has Bartolo Colon, Joel Pineiro and, if he ever decides to enter the posting process, will handle Japanese sensation Yu Darvish.
Cashman, of course, refused to say which players were discussed, but the likely bet is he talked Beltran with Lozano, and undoubtedly discussed Cepedes with Katz, especially in light of a report by Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com that Cespedes would hold a private workout for Red Sox GM Ben Cherington in the Dominican Republic this weekend. Cashman also has expressed interest in perhaps bringing back Colon at the right price.
"I have no scheduled meetings with anyone,'' said Cashman, who described his conversations so far -- he met briefly with Bob Garber, the agent for C.J. Wilson and Roy Oswalt on Tuesday as "very preliminary.''
"I think it’s more everybody feeling out everybody else,'' Cashman said. "I’ve had a hard time getting dollar figures from agents, to be honest.''
