The Yankees have signed Manny Delcarmen to a minor-league contract, a source confirmed. An official announcement will come later in the week.

Delcarmen, who came up with the Red Sox, was 3-4 with a 4.99 ERA with Boston and Colorado last year. With the Yankees, he will compete in spring training for one of the last spots in the bullpen, however he likely will need an injury to stay with the team when camp breaks.

The Yankees' bullpen is expected to be composed of Mariano Rivera, David Robertson, Rafael Soriano, Boone Logan, Corey Wade and two of the starters who aren't starters (Phil Hughes, Freddy Garcia and A.J. Burnett). Joba Chamberlain should be back at some point during the year.

Rule 5 lefty, Cesar Cabral, Rule 5 righty Brad Meyers and George Kontos will also compete for the last spot in the pen.

So Delcarmen could be on the team, but he is going to have to earn it. The New York Post first mentioned Delcarmen's signing.
