You could understand if Freddy Garcia regretted signing with the Yankees. The guy went 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA and he is coming to camp having to win a job again.

But Garcia signed in December with the Yankees because he did not want to take the chance of being a late invite to camp.

"What happened to me in 2010 [when] I got invited here," said Garcia, who was forced to take a minor league deal after going 12-6 with a 4.64 ERA in 2009. "I was not going to let that happen again. That is why I decided to sign early."

The Yankees made a pretty good deal with Garcia for $4 million plus incentives.

"I played here last year and I really liked it," Garica said. "I couldn't see myself someplace else."

Last year, Garcia declared the fifth job his, right from the start. This year, Phil Hughes probably has a slight edge going in, but if Garcia performs well he will receive plenty of opportunities.
