After being late -- late! -- on Sunday, drill sergeant Joe Girardi will deliver his State of the Yankees Address (SoTYA) on Monday. Girardi enters this year with his most stacked team since 2009. The Yankees really do not seem to have many, if any, weaknesses.
From six starters to one of the best closers in baseball being their seventh inning guy to an offense that should score a lot of runs, the only real weakness could be age; especially on the left side of the infield. But when your biggest two potential problems for a baseball team are Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, do you really have worries?
Girardi will be wound as tight as ever, but this seems the season for him to win his second ring and upgrade his uniform number by this time next year.
In 2009, Girardi won a championship so, of course, right now you have to say that is his best team. I think you can make a compelling argument this is his most stacked club he has had -- and they should be adding Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez soon.
ON DECK CIRCLE: Wally and I will be in the clubhouse when it opens at 7:55 a.m. And on the field for the season's first official workouts. There is no word yet for the SoTYA from Girardi and, even if there were, the guy is not punctual. We will be on the blog all day.
IN THE HOLE: At 11 a.m., ace researcher Mark Simonlooks more closely at Brian Cashman’s comment about Michael Pineda, and finds another potential benefit to Sabathia’s weight loss.
Question: Where do you rank A.J. Burnett on all-Yankee bust team?
