Add Russell Branyan to the list of Yankees who have bad backs in the first week of training camp. Branyan -- whose chances of making the team pretty much evaporated with the signings of Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez -- was held out of the workout today with lower back pain.

Joe Girardi said Branyan "will be down a couple of days.''

Previously, it was Austin Romine who suffered inflammation in his lower back, dealing a blow to his hopes of making the club as the backup catcher to Russell Martin.
