Joe, Cash not panicking

In the middle of a week with the Red Sox, Rays and the Mets, the Yankees are scrambling. The roster is under construction due to injuries to Jorge Posada, Curtis Granderson, Nick Johnson, Alfredo Aceves, Nick Swisher and Marcus Thames.

It’s meant that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi are having to do some improvising when it comes to replacements.

“We got great players here. We’ve got a terrific championship caliber team that is definitely fighting thorough this and that’s part of the deal,” Cashman said. “If you want to be the best you’ve got to just deal with it all and that’s what we’re doing. We’re dealing with it all.”

Girardi downplayed the upheaval all the injuries have caused.

“As far as my daily routine it doesn’t change anything, because rosters change from time to time,” Girardi said. “Every year as a manager you have to deal with certain things and that’s part of it.”

The tricky part is that injuries have also hit some of the minor leaguers the team could have called up, such as Trenton lefty left fielder Colin Curtis.

“It’s a situation where Colin Curtis would probably be here but he’s sitting on the DL with a high ankle sprain,” Cashman said. “At times it hits you above and down below. “[The] time of year’s not kind because this isn’t a time you can go out and make adjustments.”

Either way, it was too early for either to panic.

“The outfield depth clearly has been tested so hopefully we’re find out a way to get through it but if not the calendar will take us through it,” Cashman said.

He said that Granderson will likely get a rehab assignment, and start back at designated hitter.
